Suicide Prevention Week

National Suicide Prevention Week begins today! We invite you to join AFSP in bringing awareness to several key areas that can help save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

Each day this week, we encourage you to share targeted messages about AFSP’s public policy priorities and encourage others to take action with you. Attached you will find a brief announcement for each day and a corresponding social shareable; please share these with your friends and family members, in your school or workplace, or with your local news outlet.  Share the text as written in a quick email, post the text and/or image on social media, or you can even post a video of yourself reading the announcement. Join the collective AFSP voice by tagging #Stories2Connect in your social media posts.

The themes for each day will be:
– 9/10 Monday – Crisis Lines
– 9/11 Tuesday – Research Funding
– 9/12 Wednesday – Veteran and Service Member Suicide Prevention
– 9/13 Thursday – Mental Health Parity

However you decide to share these messages, it is through your voice that we will spread the important message that suicide is preventable and together, we CAN save lives.

We also encourage you to TAKE ACTION through the AFSP action center each day during Suicide Prevention Week to share these announcements with your elected officials.

We will be finishing up the week with a final challenge to recruit at least 3 additional Field Advocates to join us in our advocacy efforts.  Direct those interested to www.afsp.org/advocate for more information and to sign up.

And remember to check out AFSP’s 2018 National Suicide Prevention Week webpage for more social shareables and social media messages, merchandise updates, a calendar of events, and much more.

As always, we thank you for your advocacy!

Kind regards,
Your AFSP Public Policy Team
