Dr. Adam Chan believes that brain health is multifaceted and deeply personal. As a double board-certified psychiatrist in general and child/adolescent psychiatry, he brings a culturally informed, empathetic approach to patients of all ages. Recognizing that traditional treatments don’t work for everyone, Dr. Chan combines evidence-based psychotherapy and psychopharmacology with cutting-edge interventional care. His expansive clinical toolkit is designed to help patients heal and thrive, featuring advanced neuromodulation (TMS, ECT, VNS, Esketamine, Ketamine, and Prism) and digital therapeutics and wearables (Motivista, EndeavorRx, CBT-i Coach, and Flow).
A fourth-generation Memphian, Dr. Chan is deeply committed to his local community. As he often says, “Healing can’t happen in a silo.” He actively leverages the power of interconnection and community in his psychiatric practice. Dr. Chan returned to Memphis after earning his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and a medical degree (M.D.) from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Quillen College of Medicine in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. He completed both his general psychiatry residency and his child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (now UTHS), where he served as the Chief Resident and Chief Fellow of Administration, respectively. He has been inducted into two national medical honor societies: Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) and the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). Currently, he holds a Clinical Assistant Professor appointment at UTHS Department of Psychiatry and continues to speak and contribute locally and nationally in organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association (APA), American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), Tennessee Psychiatric Association (TPA), Tennessee Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (TSCAP), Tennessee Medical Association (TMA), Memphis Medical Society, and the Clinical TMS Society (CTMSS). At Synaptic Psych, Dr. Chan leads the Memphis clinic alongside our dedicated clinicians and staff. Together, we are excited to team up to help you and your loved ones thrive and be well!
