Honoring Mentorship: Dr. Michelle Cochran Recognized at APA Assembly with Resident Mentor Award

True mentorship is the lifeblood of organized medicine, and this year’s APA Annual Meeting beautifully highlighted that connection. Standing proudly in front of the iconic American Psychiatric Association backdrop, Michelle Cochran, M.D. stands with her mentee, Psychiatry Resident, Tope Adedolapo, M.D. who officially nominated Cochran for the  Assembly Resident Mentor Award

The nomination stems from Dr. Cochran’s guidance in helping Dr. Adedolapo draft and refine critical Action Papers. These papers, which address pressing issues and structural initiatives within the field, successfully moved through the APA governance pipeline despite initial hurdles and were officially passed by the APA Assembly Governance.

Navigating the complexities of organized medical governance is no small feat, and Dr. Cochran’s hands-on support provided a bridge needed to turn a resident’s advocacy goals into formal, passed policy.

In recognition of this meaningful contribution to resident education and systemic advocacy, Dr. Cochran, alongside a select group of esteemed Assembly members, was formally presented with this honor during the APA Assembly Luncheon.

The award serves as a powerful reminder that behind every piece of impactful healthcare policy is a dedicated mentor helping young clinicians find their voice, understand the structural machinery of medicine, and drive real organizational change.

Congratulations to Dr. Cochran and Dr. Adedolapo on this remarkable milestone!
