NEW PTSD treatment

Unlocking Hope with a NEW PTSD treatment

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can be an incredibly debilitating condition, but a new treatment has emerged and is available now at Synaptic Psych in Memphis, TN.  PRISM, a cutting-edge digital therapy developed by GrayMatters Health (GMH), is transforming how we approach the neural mechanisms of PTSD.

PRISM is more than just another therapy; it’s a targeted, non-invasive tool that puts the power of healing directly into the patient’s hands.NEW PTSD treatment

PRISM Technology and Clearance: A Novel Approach

On March 17, 2023, GrayMatters Health achieved a significant milestone, receiving 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market PRISM for PTSD.

What is PRISM?

  • Classification:PRISM is regulated as a Class II Self – neuromodulation device. It offers a non-invasive, self-guided adjunct digital therapy for PTSD.
  • Advanced Neuromodulation:PRISM is not traditional neurofeedback; traditional Neurofeedback does not have evidence or approval for PTSD.  PRISM is a sophisticated neuromodulation software device designed to train patients to self-regulate their brain activity. The key difference is that it targets a specific, advanced brain biomarker.
  • Targeting the Amygdala:The core of the technology relies on an advanced biomarker called EEG-fMRI-Pattern (EFP), which fuses high-resolution EEG and fMRI data. The therapy sessions train patients to lower this amygdala-derived-EFP biomarker, which is directly associated with the amygdala, which is the brain’s fear and emotion regulation center. By learning to regulate this specific activity, patients gain control over their stress responses.

Clinical Application and Life-Changing Outcomes

PRISM is designed to integrate seamlessly into a patient’s existing treatment plan, serving as an adjunctive treatment alongside other established pharmacological or non-pharmacological interventions.

The Treatment Journey:

  • The Therapy Sessions: The therapy is delivered over 15 sessions, typically spanning 8 weeks, with each session lasting about 30 to 45 minutes. Some patients might do the treatment over a shorter or longer period of time as decided by your clinician.
  • The Patient Experience:During a session, the patient wears an EEG headset and interacts with a captivating interactive audio/visual interface (a computer simulation). This interface reflects their brain activity in real-time. Crucially, this is a non-trauma-based experience, allowing patients to learn control over their stress responses without the necessity of reliving past trauma.

Efficacy that Inspires Hope: In a multi-center clinical study involving patients with chronic PTSD, PRISM demonstrated significant, life-changing symptom improvement:

  • Significant Improvement:67% of patients demonstrated clinically significant symptom improvement (a 6-point reduction in CAPS-5 scores) at the 3-month follow-up.
  • Remission Achieved:A remarkable 32% of patients experienced remission after completing a 15-session regimen in trials.
  • Holistic Benefits:Significant improvements in sleep, a common challenge for PTSD sufferers, were also observed.

Safety Profile: The treatment’s safety profile is excellent. The most common adverse events were mild and transient, such as headache and fatigue, which resolved naturally without intervention.

In Summary

PRISM is positioned as a promising, novel technology that heralds a new era for PTSD treatment. By utilizing targeted neuromodulation, not just standard neurofeedback, PRISM empowers patients to control the underlying neural mechanisms of their condition.  PRISM offers a potent, non-invasive path toward greater emotional regulation and a significant step toward healing.
